Rectal polyp

Rectal polyps are growths from the mucous membrane; they are benign tumours of the anal canal arising from the mucous membrane. They are a very common disease of the anal canal. On examination, they may resemble an advanced form of haemorrhoidal disease, for which they can be mistaken. Polyps are often located at the edge of a chronic fissure and thus cause its failure to heal.

Symptoms

• • itching
  • perianal eczema
  • bleeding
  • pain at the site of the polyp
  • sensation of a formation coming out during bowel movement
  • bowel urgency

Outpatient procedures that we perform under special local anaesthesia

It is important to distinguish them from malignant tumours of the rectum in the anal canal. Therefore, rectal polyps should be sent for histology. Sampling can be done during rectoscopy or surgery in the outpatient clinic under local anaesthesia. Subsequently, examination of the entire colon by colonoscopy at gastroenterological outpatient clinics is also necessary. We have many years of experience in the diagnosis and outpatient treatment of rectal polyps as one of the few workplaces in Slovakia using the latest techniques and methods without hospitalisation and with rapid recovery.
