Rectal surgeries are performed under local anaesthesia in the prone position (lying flat with the chest down and the back up), thanks to tumescent local anaesthesia applied to the rectum, the patient has no pain 3 hours after the procedure.
You will bring your medical report and informed consent to the procedure, which shall be signed at the reception desk on the day of the procedure.
You will apply the enema product into your rectum while lying on your side on the day of the procedure, approximately 45 minutes before the procedure. After application, you will hold the contents of the enema in the rectum and, within about 15 - 30 min, you will feel bowel urgency and use the toilet. Usually, patients have 1 - 2 bowel movements. As our patient, you will receive the enema product from us at the reception desk when you make your appointment for the procedure.
To prevent increased bleeding and bruising, women should come not earlier than 5 or more days after menstruation.
Before rectal procedures, "blood thinners", such as Warfarin or NOACs (Xarelto, Pradaxa, Eliquis...), and drugs containing acetylsalicylic acid and ibuprofen, such as Anopyrin, Brufen, Ibuprofen, must not be taken for 7 days. Switch to Fraxiparine 0.4 ml, if needed.
We recommend a lighter meal 1 day before the procedure, but do not come fasting. You can eat and drink on the morning of the procedure, but do not drink coffee 2 hours before the procedure.
The recommended first follow-up visit takes place 2 - 7 days after the procedure, depending on the type of procedure, and then in 3 weeks. In case of difficulties, an earlier follow-up visit is required, please make an appointment at our reception desk. Further follow-ups take place in 3 months and 6 months, during which rectoscopy is performed.
Do not starve after the procedure, but choose a lighter non-irritating diet (avoid chili, spices, a lot of coffee, nuts ...)
Replace the Suprasorb A (aguacel) dressing 2 hours after the procedure and then alternate with a cotton swab and a thin slip sanitary pad, as needed. After the procedure, it is important to minimise local irritation and touching, pushing, blow drying, cooling the rectal area and similar manoeuvres. Always rinse the rectal area after a bowel movement and pat yourself dry after showering. Do not push very hard during bowel movement. Minimise sitting on the toilet.
2 hours after the procedure, take 1 sachet of Dexadol. For pain, you can take another analgesic in 8 to 10 hours and take 1 tablet of Skudex at night for pain. If you experience rectal pain 3 to 5 days after the procedure, you can take analgesics, e.g. Dexadol 1 sachet 2-3 times a day, or Brufen 400 mg 2*1 tbl, to reduce rectal spasm and to prevent inflammation.
For 4 weeks after the procedure, take Flebaven 3x1 tablet for 4 days, then 2x1 tablet for 3 days, and then 1 tablet in the morning, or Detralex 3x2 tablets for 4 days, then 2x2 tablets for 3 days, and then 2 tablets.
In case of hard stools, try to eat 1 - 2 apples a day with peel, flakes, bran, apply a glycerine suppository once daily, or add 1 - 2 teaspoons of psyllium to yoghurt or mixed fruit, etc., or 1 - 2 scoops of lactulose a day, and drink 2 - 2.5 litres of fluids a day.
2 weeks after the procedure: avoid strong coughing, cycling and pelvic floor exercises, especially those involving heavy lifting and thus increased pressure, e.g. squats.
According to the findings, apply topical ointments or Proctis M, Emotralex suppositories twice daily. For pain, apply Doloproct ointment 2 - 3 times a day.
